As I continue to wear and enjoy my “Vintage Specs” I wanted to bring you more examples from my collection as promised.
From the top: J. Tiktiner, Ted Lapiduis, Vintage No-Names, Vintage No-Names
The first pair I still absolutely love 20+ years later, I purchased these when I was in college. I attended the University of London and took every opportunity that I could to go to Paris or Cannes/Nice for the long weekend.
And of course there was lots of shopping going on as well. Usually I was always venturing off the beaten track to find fashion that wasn’t on the main avenues.
I remember finding these glasses in a wonderful little boutique, loving them for their 21st century galactic look. They still mix well with so many looks, and as is the case with any fashion investment, when money is well spent, they have held up and look great!
Here’s a little about the Company, they were primarily based in France and very little of their designs were sold outside of the country.
The owners of Tiktiner, a family-run fashion house based in Nice, France, never really considered their position outside the urban fashion center of Paris a liability. The principles, Henri and Dina Viterbo and their daughters Miquette and Vivian, occasionally admitted to the need for stimulation beyond the French Riviera in order to inspire new ideas. But the Viterbos remained committed to their own brand of high-quality, classic-styled, resort-oriented ready-to-wear, and felt no need to leave Nice or tamper with the relaxed attitude toward clothing that supported them handsomely for decades.
The second pair are the classic shape that Ted Lapidus introduced in the 80″s and are still so fabulous to wear!
Edmond “Ted” Lapidus (23 June 1929 – 29 December 2008) was a French fashion designer. He was born in Paris the son of a Russian-Jewish Émigré tailor.
Lapidus was considered the creator and pioneer of the unisex fashion look and is credited with introducing a military and safari look into haute couture. He is credited as the first designer to put Military style Shoulder straps on both male and female clothing, and with making blue jeans part of the mainstream of fashion design.
And the fabulous Iris Apfel in a pair….
The other two pairs I picked up years ago thrifting, because of their color and shape, and are a lot of fun to wear.
And as always…Much Love
